How to budget for celebrations

05/2023

Celebrations including birthdays, Christmas, parties and weddings are always wonderful occasions but they can be expensive. At The Organising Lady, I’m always looking for ways to make your life easier.

Here’s my top tips on how to budget for those celebrations:

1 – Make a list of what you need for your event – include the number of people, your budget and any dietary requirements

2 – Check the cupboards for what you already have. You’ll be surprised by how many things like balloons, napkins and tablecloths you already own.

3 – Ask your guests what they have to contribute – eg food or drinks to spread the load They may have Union Jack flags, extra glasses or table settings you can loan instead of buying.

4 – Buy food and drinks with a long shelf life or that can be frozen afterwards.

5 – Make sure you have food storage boxes ready for left-overs

6 – Make a free Spotify playlist or turn on the radio

7 – Put together a Coronation (or Eurovision) quiz to test your knowledge and entertain your guests

8 – Create an area for games and make a cheap photo booth for your guests. Create a backdrop from a tablecloth, bedsheet, Union Jack flag or a plain wall. Add fancy dress props you already have in a basket and encourage people to dress up and take photos.

Most of all, make sure you have fun!
